If your turnover is above the threshold, you need a verified B-BBEE certificate from an accredited verification agency. The higher your B-BBEE level, the more preference points you score on most tenders.
Step 5: Get CIDB Grading for Construction Tenders
If you want to bid on construction, building, road or engineering tenders at any Eastern Cape municipality, you need a grading from the Construction Industry Development Board, known as the CIDB. The CIDB grades contractors from level 1 up to level 9.
Your grading depends on your track record, financial standing and management capability. A new contractor starts at a low grade and works up. You cannot bid on a large municipal construction tender without the right CIDB grading.
Register on the CIDB online portal and submit your documents. The CIDB will issue your grading certificate, which you then use when bidding.
Step 6: Prepare Your Tender Compliance Documents
Every Eastern Cape municipality tender comes with a set of required documents. If you miss one document, your bid is disqualified. The standard documents include:
